John Franklin Woodward, Jr. passed away peacefully November 10, 2018.  He was born in Bluffton, Indiana on January 2, 1943 to Frank and Beatrice Woodward.

He is survived by his daughter Nicole Coreen (Steve, Jr) Kalck of Noblesville, Indiana; three grandchildren, Brayden Hipp, Kyle Hipp and McKayla Kalck; sister, Rosemarie (Bill) Milholland; numerous nieces and nephews; devoted friend, Natalie; as well as many dear friends and other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Bea; and sister, Sally Dettmer.

He grew up in Tocsin, Indiana, where his father owned a local lumber business and grain elevator. This is where he honed his interest in the grain industry. Upon graduating  from Purdue University with a degree in business, his career began at Central Soya in Decatur, Indiana.  He was transferred to Minneapolis then moved to Chicago where he eventually became a member of the Chicago Board of Trade. John was also a member of ROTC.

John was active in local churches and was Finance Director at Baker Memorial Methodist church in St. Charles, Illinois.  John enjoyed numerous sports activities including water skiing, snow skiing and most of all fishing.  Whether it be a pond in a middle of a corn field, fishing with daughter Nicole at a friend’s back yard pond or fishing in the Canadian wilderness with his buddies from the bowling group,  he was always excited to catch “the big one”.  John also enjoyed tinkering with cars.  If you didn’t know where he was, you could always find him working on a car in the garage.

John was loved by many due to his kind and gentle spirit.  He loved the Lord and enjoyed participating in various bible study groups.

A memorial service will be held  at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 24 at Indiana Funeral Care, Harry W. Moore Chapel, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, IN. He will be interred in a private ceremony in Ossian, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of John F. Woodward, Jr. to Northview Church (https://preview.northviewchurch.us/memorial). All gifts given in memory of John will be used to support  the work of the International Justice Mission.  The IJM is a mission outreach to fight child slavery in Africa.

Johnny will be greatly missed. He suffered a long time, but kept his sense of humor. He is my cousin on my Mother’s side. He was just 9 days younger than me. He was a nice guy!!! And, very handsome!!! Looked like his Dad. We never spent very much time together, but when we did, he was always extremely nice and considerate… and fun! I wish he could have stayed longer to enjoy his daughter and grandchildren more… but I’m sure the time they had together is unforgettable.
